Women's History Month: Tea Time and Book Discussion - April 8, 2010
On March 25, 2010, Bowie State University celebrated Women's History Month with a tea and book discussion event, featuring author Lillian Lincoln Lambert. She came on campus to discuss her book "The Road to Someplace Better: From the Segregated South to Harvard Business School and Beyond." In this book, she shares an inspiring personal journey that traces her roots as a poor farm girl in Virginia who overcomes obstacles to make history at Harvard University and become a successful entrepreneur in Maryland.
Author and businesswoman Lillian Lincoln Lambert is primarily known for being the first African-American woman to earn an MBA from Harvard Business School. She was one of six blacks and one of 18 females in her class of 800. Lambert was not offered a job by any company prior to her 1969 graduation. In 1976 she launched her own building services company, Centennial One. The entrepreneur built it into a $20 million plus company, that she sold in 2001. In 2003, Harvard Business School awarded Lambert the Alumni Achievement Award, the highest award bestowed on its alumni.
